เมื่อวานนี้เราได้แจ้งว่า วันที่ 22 หรือ 23 เราจะมีการเสวนา พร้อมจัดฉายหนัง แต่วันนี้ทางคุณอภิชาติพงศ์ได้ติดต่อกลับมา และแจ้งว่าจะไม่มีการฉายภาพยนตร์เรื่องแสงศตวรรษในการเสวนาครั้งนี้ เนื่องด้วยไม่ต้องการให้ใครเข้าใจว่า เหตุการณ์นี้เป็นไปเพื่อการโปรโมทภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้ อีกทั้งไม่ต้องการให้การเคลื่อนไหวครั้งนี้ เป็นไปเพื่อภาพยนตร์เรื่องใดเรื่องหนึ่ง แต่เพื่อสิทธิ์ของผู้ชมทุกคน ที่จะมีสามารถได้รับชมภาพยนตร์ทุกเรื่องอย่างครบถ้วน และมีสิทธิ์ในการใช้วิจารณญาณของตนเอง รวมถึงเสรีภาพของผู้ผลิตภาพยนตร์ ที่จะไม่มีอะไรมาผูกมัดจำกัดสิทธิ์ในการผลิตภาพยนตร์ภายใต้กรอบ หรือกฎเกณฑ์ที่คนกลุ่มใดกลุ่มหนึ่งกำหนดข้อจำกัดให้
นั่นหมายถึงเป้าหมายไม่ได้เพื่อปลดปล่อยภาพยนตร์เรื่องแสงศตวรรษ แต่เป็นไปเพื่อการยกเลิกระบบการเซ็นเซอร์ในบ้านเราเสียที
อย่างไรก็ตามการเสวนานั้น น่าจะมีขึ้นในวันจันทร์ที่ 23 หรือวันอังคารที่ 24ทางเว็บไซต์จะแจ้งสถานที่ และวันเวลาที่แน่นอนอีกครั้ง
Yesterday we informed you that we would organize a seminar with Syndromes and a Century screening on the 22th or 23th April. However, Mr.Apichartpong has contacted us and notified that there shall be no film screening during this seminar because he doesnt want people to get the wrong idea that this event is a way to promote the film. Also, he has no desire to take any advantage from this movement for his film alone, but for the right of every audience to wholly watch every film and the right to make their own judgement, as well as the freedom for filmmakers to craft their art without bond or boundary or any particular rule.
That means the ultimate goal is not to free only Syndromes and a Century, but to obliterate the censorship system in Thailand.
Nevertheless, the seminar will still be on 23th or 24th April. We will inform you theplace and exact date on this website later on.

ผมรู้สึกเสียใจยิ่งต่อสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นแก่หนังของผม อย่างไรก็ตาม การต่อสู้นี้มิได้เป็นไปเพียงเพื่อจะผลักดันภาพยนตร์เรื่อง "แสงศตวรรษ" ให้ได้เข้าโรงฉายในประเทศไทย ผมมิได้มีความต้องการจะใช้โอกาสนี้เพื่อประชาสัมพันธ์ผลงานของผมเอง แต่ถึงเวลาแล้วที่เราจะต้องขบคิดอย่างจริงจังเกี่ยวกับกฎหมายการเซ็นเซอร์ของไทยเรา เพื่อที่คนทำหนังรุ่นต่อไปจะได้ไม่ต้องเผชิญปัญหาเดียวกับพวกเรา และผู้ชมชาวไทยจะได้มีอิสระในการเลือกอย่างแท้จริงเสียที

ถึงเวลาแล้วที่เราจะต้องถกเถียงกันว่า ก่อนที่หนังทุกเรื่องจะเข้าฉายนั้น ควรหรือที่มันจะต้องผ่านการพิจารณาจากกรมศาสนา แพทยสภา กลุ่มวิชาชีพครู กรมแรงงาน ทหาร กลุ่มคนรักสัตว์ สหภาพแท็กซี่ ผู้แทนจากประเทศอื่น ฯลฯ? หรือมันจะง่ายกว่าหากเราเปลี่ยนระบบการปกครองของประเทศให้เป็นรัฐเผด็จการเสียเลย เพื่อที่เราจะได้อยู่ร่วมกันอย่างเห็นพ้องเป็นหนึ่งเดียวกันทุกสิ่ง และไม่ต้องเสียเวลาพูดถึงเรื่องประชาธิปไตยกันอีกต่อไป?

Free Thai Cinema Movement Petition
Statement by Apichatpong Weerasethakul
with Bioscope, the Thai Film Foundation, Thai Film Directors Association, and Alliances.
I am saddened by what has happened to my film. However,this is not the venue to try to make SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY shown in Thai theaters. It is not my intention to use this opportunity to promote my work.But, it is time to seriously think about what is going on with our censorship laws, so that the next generation of filmmakers will not face the same problems as us, and so that the Thai audiences can truly achieve a freedom of choice.
It is time we discuss whether all films, before being released, should be seen by the Buddhist council, doctors council, teachers council,labor council, the army, pet lovers group, taxi union, representatives from other foreign countries etc? Or, is it easier to turn our nation into a Fascist state so that we can live in harmony and dont have to waste time talking about democracy?
The system of the Thai Board of Censors needs to be evaluated. Their members' relevancy and efficiency needs to be questioned, and we should decide whether the laws should be changed.I would like to ask you to reflect on the censorship practices in our country and to provide us with advice at
